FULL TIME, LIVE IN VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

We are looking for a dedicated, passionate, hardworking individual or couple to join the team as our Animal Care Assistant

VOLUNTEER WITH US

Role: Animal Care Volunteer

Location:

Cómpeta, Málaga, Spain

Commitment:

Minimum 4 week stay (1-3 months preferred)

THE SANCTUARY

Sarja Microsanctuary is a small vegan animal sanctuary in Southern Spain. We provide a safe home for rescued donkeys, goats, pigs, dogs, cats, chickens, geese, rabbits and other animals who have experienced neglect, abandonment or exploitation.

Our mission is simple: to provide a place where every life matters.

We are a small team and rely heavily on volunteers to help with the day-to-day running of the sanctuary. The animals need care every single day of the year, so we are looking for dedicated volunteers who are willing to become part of the daily routine and help us continue providing the best possible care.

THE ROLE

Volunteers work approximately 5 hours per day, 5 days per week.

Duties vary depending on the season and the needs of the animals, but typically include:

• Feeding and watering animals
• Dog walking
• Cleaning shelters and enclosures
• Carrying hay, feed and supplies around the land
• General sanctuary tidiness and maintenance
• Monitoring animal wellbeing
• Assisting with other tasks as needed to support the sanctuary

The work is outdoors, practical and physically active. The sanctuary is spread across hillside land, so volunteers should be comfortable walking up and down the property throughout the day.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Essential:

• Minimum 4 week commitment
• Physically fit and healthy
• Comfortable around animals of all kinds
• Reliable and able to follow routines
• Positive attitude and willingness to learn
• Able to work independently as well as part of a team
• Comfortable living simply in a rural environment
• Respectful of people, animals and shared spaces

Desirable:

• Animal care experience
• DIY or maintenance skills
• Driving licence
• Experience of volunteering, farming or outdoor work

Animal experience is helpful but not essential. We are much more interested in finding kind, dependable people with a strong work ethic and a genuine passion for animal welfare.

ACCOMMODATION & LIVING

Food and accommodation are included.

Accommodation options may include a private studio room, a modest semi off-grid caravan, or a van/camper park-up space depending on availability.

The sanctuary is located in a peaceful rural setting near Cómpeta. This is not a holiday stay and is best suited to people who enjoy outdoor living, animals, nature and a slower pace of life.

Please note:

• No children or personal pets
• We cannot provide visas, sponsorships or invitation letters
• International volunteers must already have the legal right to volunteer in Spain
