ABOUT SARJA MICROSANCTUARY
Sarja Microsanctuary was established in 2022 by Raquel on her family land in the mountains near Cómpeta, Málaga.
What started as a desire to help a handful of animals in need has grown into a small but thriving sanctuary that is now home to over 50 rescued animals, including donkeys, goats, pigs, dogs, chickens, ducks, rabbits, and other animals who have experienced neglect, abandonment, or exploitation.
Every animal who arrives at Sarja is given the opportunity to live out the rest of their life in safety, surrounded by kindness, care, and respect.
The sanctuary is run by Raquel alongside a dedicated team of volunteers. As a small independent sanctuary, volunteers play an essential role in the daily care of the animals and the running of the sanctuary. From feeding routines and dog walking to enclosure cleaning, maintenance projects, and general animal care, the sanctuary simply would not exist without the support of volunteers from around the world and our local community.
Our mission is to provide a safe and peaceful forever home for animals who have nowhere else to go. We believe that every animal deserves the chance to live freely, express their natural behaviours, and enjoy life without expectation or purpose beyond simply being themselves.
It is equally important to us that Sarja is a place where people can reconnect with nature, experience a slower pace of life, and find purpose through meaningful contribution. Through caring for animals and working alongside like-minded people, we hope to create an environment where kindness, compassion, and community can flourish.
As we continue to grow, our goal is to improve the lives of the animals already in our care, provide sanctuary to more animals in need, and inspire greater compassion for all living beings.
Where Kindness Lives.
A Place Where Every Life Matters.
